Rachel Mallon, soprano, has performed in operas, concerts, oratorios, and attended workshops in art song and vocal pedagogy, across North America, Europe and the Middle East. Role highlights include Fiordiligi, Paquette, Pamina, Helena and even Lily in The Secret Garden. Ms. Mallon has studied voice with a number of well-known teachers; among them she cites Ruth Falcon and Wendy Nielsen as her strongest influences. She frequently works with coaches from the Metropolitan Opera. Ms. Mallon has received numerous scholarships and awards for her singing and teaching.
Ms. Mallon is a passionate teacher who enjoys the process and progress of her students from beginner to master levels. In October 2012, one of Ms. Mallon’s students was the youngest performer to ever sing at Carnegie Hall as a finalist in the New York Tang Dynasty Competition. Almost simultaneously, another student won runner-up in the Sheila and Marla Zack Scholarship Competition and subsequently, Orchestra Hamilton hired her as a guest artist for their “Popera” in January 2013. In 2011, another student debuted with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony. She frequently tours North America, Europe and Australia and has won a Polaris Prize as well as being a JUNO Awards Nominee. Many of Ms. Mallon’s students have won competitions from Provincials to Metropolitan Opera Auditions to NATS.
Ms. Mallon holds a MMus in voice performance from Western University. She is a member of NATS and an active adjudicator in Canada. Ms. Mallon has been teaching voice performance for the Don Wright Faculty of Music since 2004.
